Pioneers of RTI in the Region

The Gilgit Baltistan Right to Information Initiative (GBRTII) is a youth-led platform promoting transparency, accountable governance, and informed citizenship in Gilgit-Baltistan. Registered under the Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies Ordinance 1961, we focus on RTI awareness, research, advocacy, and civic education.

why informed citizens matter

In contexts like Gilgit-Baltistan, challenges are not just about access — they are about awareness, agency, and the power to act.

Our Mission

To empower citizens — especially youth, women, and marginalized communities — with the knowledge, confidence, and tools to participate actively in governance and shape their own futures.

Our Vision

A Gilgit-Baltistan where every individual has access to information, understands their rights, and participates meaningfully in creating transparent, accountable, and inclusive communities.

Our Approach

We work through community-driven, youth-led, and sustainable interventions — from RTI advocacy and digital campaigns to in-person sessions, policy dialogues, and partnerships that create lasting change.

Change, Measured in Lives

From remote mountain villages to university campuses, our work creates real, measurable change in people’s lives, knowledge, and confidence.

Dapa Katisho MHM & SRHR Awareness Project

Addressing menstrual health awareness in one of the most remote and underserved regions of Gilgit-Baltistan. Dapa is a high-altitude rural community where cultural taboos, geographical isolation, and lack of structured learning spaces have long restricted conversations around menstrual health.

The project exceeded all expectations, reaching 222 participants — nearly three times the original target of 80 — by adopting a village-to-village outreach approach and partnering with local volunteers, gynecologists, and community leaders.

The real measure of our work is the change we see in people’s lives, confidence, and communities.

"Before this project, menstruation was never spoken about openly in our village. After the sessions, girls are confident, informed, and no longer ashamed. This is a transformation we will carry forward."
